This was such a good price for this particular item. I've compared the price online, and Amazon sold for by far the lowest price. Not to mention that there was no tax and no shipping fee.
The reason with 4 stars and not 5 is that power of this microwave is not that high. I had one from Panasonic with 1200 watt, and that was very nice until blew up after 7 years of hard work. I wanted a high power one, but they were too expensive.
The convection oven part is O.K. I've tested with some toffee cookies. Ones from my range/oven came out more moist inside and crisp outside. The convection oven dried the cookies, and they came out a bit too hard. Since I had only one oven before I bought this product, it is nice to have the second oven for the holiday seasons.
My old microwave was on the counter, and now I have so much more counter space. That's the part I love most of all.
I think the microwave is great-I would like -it could be better if it had better reheat compabilities
Be sure that you have an electrical line/socket dedicated to the microwave or have a large enough breaker since this oven draws 1250 watts. Having a 20 amp breaker, we cannot run the microwave in the kitchen and a 1000 watt hair dryer in the bathroom at the same time!
You can program the microwave on a warming setting--food doesn't dry out and is ready for the stragglers coming to the table late or after dinner is over.
Turntable and interior cavity is so large you can cook several items at once or cook something in a 9 by 15 dish without it hitting the sides of the oven.
There are no knobs or dials on the control panel so it is very easy to keep clean.
Instructions are on the display so you can skip the manual and still use most of the features right out of the box.
I have yet to figure out by how much to reduce the cooking time since this unit cooks so quickly. Each time cook, I reduce the cooking time and each time find that less time would have been ok. Not a bad problem to have. Time to get out the manual!
Addendum: Since first writing this review in Jan. 2006, I have used sensor cooking mode which pretty much eliminates having to set an amount of time and eliminates having to guess at cooking powers, especially when several levels of cooking power are required(one example is rice--see below).
I have never been good at cooking rice. I have discovered that by selecting "side dish" and then "white rice" I can make perfect, fluffy rice. 2 1/2 cups of water and 1 cup of rice in a 2 - 1/2 quart covered round pyrex bowl. No more burned pots and no more gummy rice! I like that it is all automatic .
I had to replace a GE microwave that was smaller in size and wattage because it stopped working. I liked that my older one took up less counter space, but occasionally was frustrated by not being able to put casserole dishes in to heat because they wouldn't fit. So I looked around a bit and found this one. This microwave definitely takes up more space, and heats quicker with the higher wattage. I do miss the counter space it now takes up. Still worth the trade-off though. If I have any problems, I'll post an update. Got mine today at my military PX for less than Amazon's price.
